“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”― Henry James
Here’s my second annual summer vacation reading recommendations. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of poetry, essays and a with a splash of short stories and historical fiction.
From Erika Robuck through Jackson Warfield, these reading selections coincide with author readings that I attended over the past six months. I rarely leave an author reading without at least one signed copy of one of their publications.
Without further ado, in order of oldest to most recently read:
Stay Up With Me by Tom Barbash
The Diary of Anais Nin Vol. 1 by Anais Nin
Collected Poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay
Blue Plate Special by Kate Christensen
The Empathy Exams by Leslie Jamison
Talking With Birches by Pat Parnell
Another Forty Years by Mike Nelson
That Old Highway of Dead Angels by Jackson Warfield
Look in the Mirror and Laugh in the Face of Madness by Jackson Warfield
Carver Country by Raymond Carver
Call Me If You Need Me By Raymond Carver
Where I’m Calling From By Raymond Carver
